Welcome to Lover of Life Singer of Songs

Loveroflifesingersofsongs.com is a musician support website

Another Place

Now, you’ve probably seen this type of website on the internet and you might have thought that this is yet another place where musicians try to make a name for themselves. I really can’t fault you for thinking along those lines because those types of websites are a dime a dozen.
In fact, the internet is crawling with them. There are all sorts of frustrated would-be musical stars from all four corners of the globe creating web pages, and if these web pages are actually on free hosts. They don’t have to spend a dollar getting their name out there thanks to these free hosts.
In fact, a lot of upcoming stars in the musical field know social media inside and out. It is no surprise that even on a shoestring budget, they are able to make quite a name for themselves. They are able to get noticed despite the better-financed competitors. You really have to give credit where credit is due because as the old saying goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
But if you are an upcoming musical star and you have talent, you are halfway there. That’s right! I said it. Talent will take you halfway. Now, a lot of people are thinking that talent is the number one criterion for anybody to succeed in the musical field. The assumption being that people who make it all the way through must be talented while people who don’t make it are not as talented. Put in another way, all people who make it must be talented.
I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this but none of these is true. Seriously. There are lots of talented people out there that are as anonymous today as when they started. It doesn’t matter how many years they’ve put in. It doesn’t matter how passionate they are.
It doesn’t matter how many concerns they’ve put on. They can go from city to city, town to town, region to region and still remain fairly anonymous. It doesn’t matter how big their musical scene is. They might be concentrating on a fairly popular type of music but it wouldn’t matter.
I know it sounds depressing, but this is absolutely true. It would be great if you only needed to be talented to make headway in your music dreams. Unfortunately, talent is just part of the equation. And I am sorry to report that a lot of the big names right now in the music world are not all that talented.

Finding real talent

Now, believe me. As much as we can debate all day, every day regarding Justin Bieber, we can all agree that he’s not exactly the poster child of tip-top talent as far as musical prowess, compositional skills, and classical training are concerned. Most people agree on that. Sure, he makes millions of dollars and he has tons of rabid fans from all four corners of the world, but none of that makes all these factual observations go away. He still deserves respect because he is at the top of his game. If you can’t hate the player, hate the game, right?

Talent

Similarly, a lot of people are saying that if you are struggling, it’s because you have no talent. Again, this is not true. There are a lot of talented people who are struggling with anonymity. Just as no-talent people become really popular, there are really talented people who don’t become popular.

Skills

This website, loveroflifesingerofsongs, is dedicated to people who have the talent but do not have the skills to make a name for themselves. While social media can go a long way in helping you achieve some level of notoriety especially within your musical niche, you need to think big. You need to think much bigger than that. Otherwise, it’s only a matter of time until you get sick and tired of being disappointed.

Sick and Tired

That’s right! You will reach a point where you get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Not surprisingly, in that situation, the only sensible choice left is to give up. It’s only a matter of time.

Support Network

The good news is there is a tremendous support network out there for musicians who have skills but who just can’t quite get it together. Now, I am not saying that we cultivate a lovable band of losers here. Instead, we focus on cultivating people who have the skills to sing, play music, and otherwise create an amazing musical experience. However, we give them the tools that they need as well as the context that they deserve to get a big break.

Slow it down

Now, don’t get too excited. A lot of people are thinking a big break automatically means some sort of recording contract. Some people are under the impression that when you get a big break, you automatically get flown by major studios to do concerts and back up big-name artists. While that is definitely a distinct possibility, usually, your big break takes a more modest form.

Demo

Usually, a big break happens when you get to record a demo. That’s it. That’s the big chance you get. I’m sorry to be the one to report this, but usually, a demo can only take you so far. Usually, a demo doesn’t really get that many listeners.

High point

This is pretty much the high point of many up-and-coming stars’ career. They can tour all they want. They can print out as many shirts as they want. They can blast social media all they want, but at best, they would get a tiny regional following if at all.

Realistic View

I don’t say this to depress you. I am not saying this to make you see your musical career dreams fly away like a runaway bird. Instead, I just want to give you a realistic snapshot of what you’re up against. It’s one thing to have talent; it’s another to have focus, tenacity, and sense of purpose to get you from zero to hero.
The good news is that this has been done before, it’s being done now, and chances are, it will continue to be done long into the future. You have two choices right now. Either you give up because it just seems so hard and so impossible, or you keep at it while taking care of your sideline or taking care of your 9 to 5 job. This is both a welcome call and an invitation to excellence.
